The Two Trees - Water In The Desert

There were two trees in the Garden of Eden. Why these two trees and what is their meaning? We know that YHVH said that they could eat of all the trees but one, the tree of “knowledge of good and evil”. They did not eat of the tree of “Life” but of the tree of “knowledge of good and evil”. To understand these two trees, we first have to look at the motive behind eating thereof, or what drove Eve to commit the first sin. To understand this more clearly, lets look at the word, covet, which I belief is the whole reason behind the first sin.

Covet - The Two Trees - Water In The Desertchâmad” - a primitive root, meaning; to delight in, beauty, greatly beloved, covet, delectable thing. The word consists of a “Chet” a “ Mem” and then a “Dalet”.

  • The “Chet” is on the right side, the spiritual side, and represents the tree of Life.
  • The “Dalet” is on the left side representing the flesh and is also symbolising “a door”. This represents the choice for you to open yourself to the hope of your dreams through physical (left) knowledge.
  • “Mem” is in the middle and represents the two words spoken of in the passage in Genesis; where it says that the fruit was pleasing to the sight (eye), (mar'eh) and good for food, (ma'ăkâl).

So there was three things that caused “man” to covet; the fruit was pleasing to the eye, the fruit was food and lastly; the fruit will give them knowledge to accomplish their goals and dreams (to be like YHWH).

Just to put everything into perspective, lets look at the two opposite instructions mentioned in the Ten Commandments.

  • The first commandment is; I AM YHWH your Elohim that brought you out of Egypt…..
  • The last commandment is; …you shall not covet….

The (1) and the (10) shows the fullness of each of these commandments and the first commandment shows the fullness of believing in YHWH and everything to do with Him. If you embrace this first commandment of faith in YHWH you will find it very easy to accomplish the rest of the commandments and this is actually confirmed by Y’shua when asked what the greatest commandment was. On the opposite side of this commandment, and the furthest away from it, is the last commandment; you shall not to covet. To covet will bring the fullness of sin into your life and covetousness is the main reason and basis for breaking all the other commandments. These two commandments stand fully opposite each other and the side you choose determines the life you will live.

Taking this into account, we see that the first commandment relates to the tree of life, represented by the “Hey”. The last commandment is relates to the tree of knowledge; the motive and reason for breaking all the other commandments. This tree is represented by the “dalet” on the left side of the word “covet” standing on the left side (flesh).

Both trees represent the Torah (first 5 books of the Scriptures) and the tree you eat from is determined by your motive, the center letter (mem). Is your motive to do something that is pleasing to the eye – someone seeing you doing something “good” or do you do it because you want to get something out of it – “good for food”. Doing the right thing with the wrong motive, show that you eat of the tree on the left; the tree of knowledge. Doing “good” things with the motive of loving YHVH and wanting to please Him, then you eat of the tree on the right; the tree of life.

We know that eating of the tree of knowledge caused Adam and Eve to be separated (died), from YHVH spiritually, and later they died physically. If you continue to eat from His Word with the wrong motive, you will not be united with YHVH, but will be separated from Him. Be careful of how you approach His Word and how you use His Word on others. The selfish way (opposite of love) is to serve YHWH and obeying the Torah to see what blessings you can get through doing this.

The end result is separation from YHWH and the very end may result in what is described in Matt 7:21-23:

Mat 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens. 22 “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ 23 “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’

By eating of the tree of knowledge, man wanted to be gods (ruler ship – selfish motive) and they end up separated from YHWH, just like Adam & Eve, By eating of the tree of Life, you will become God’s -(ownership - our Master) and you will be made one with Him in the new Jerusalem forever.

The word for “tree” is “etsThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert , an “Ajin” (eye) and a “tzadi” (righteous). The two letters represents the two trees and the “tree of Life” is represented by the “tzadi” on the left. The “tzadi” is a symbol of a righteous man standing with his hands raised. This man stands in the world (physical-left) and is righteous because he eats of the tree of life. The tree of “knowledge of good and evil” is represented by the “ajin” on the right. This tree is a branch that comes from the tree of life and has no roots of it’s own and is dependant on the tree of Life. This gives us the spiritual insight that you cannot have spiritual knowledge (right side) without your roots being grounded into the tree of life. If you separate the two, the tree of knowledge will die without the life. The place in Scripture where the word “tree” fist occurs is in:

Gen 1:11
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

The word “tree” or “etsThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert also means; spine, backbone, wood, council, advice, purpose, to shut. It is not just a tree; it is a fruit tree. The word fruit or “pereeThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert means; produce, offspring, to bear fruit, heifer or cow. The cow or red heifer is used as a sacrifice for the cleansing ritual. If you connect the word for “fruit” to the first part of the word for “tree”, namely the “Ajin”, we get the word “pawraThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert meaning; to lead, leader. If you connect the word for “fruit” to the second part of the word for “tree”, namely the “Tzadi”, we get the word “pehretsThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert meaning; breach, gap, broken wall. As we have seen, both trees are the Torah and the fruit of the trees are there for council, advice and to let you find your purpose.

The warning is that you must be careful of you take part in the fruits so that it will bring Life and not Death and separation. We see that the fruits of the trees are the produce of the work of the Messiah where He became the sacrifice for our cleansing and that He will have an offspring of those He cleansed. The last two words “pawra” and “pehrets” shows us that the Messiah is our Leader and Master and that He was broken for us and that He broke down the wall of separation caused by the first sin of eating from the wrong tree. This is later shown by the tearing of the veil in the Temple and that we have access to the Father through Him. The word for “bearing” or “awsahThe Two Trees - Water In The Desert means; to do, work, make, and produce.

The “peree” or work the Messiah did through His sacrificial death produced offspring and these offspring will do His works and produce fruit as well. We need to eat from the tree of Life so that we can produce fruits of Life (fruit of the Spirit) so that other people can eat of “our” fruits we produce by working His work He planned for us.

Mat 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, so that they see your good works and praise your Father who is in the heavens.

Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah יהושע unto good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
