The Holy Name, should it be pronounced? - Water In The Desert

Hi flip. i enjoyed the article on the Aleph Bet and have signed up to your website. I am new to the Messianic way of looking at scripture and what i've come to believe is Hashem's commands to us to follow. I've been devouring everything I can read and study and have recieved a lot of info from Chabad too, although they don't recognize Yeshua as the Moshiach,i still glean a lot of good study material from them when it comes to Torah. My question is , Why do so many Messianic websites and teachers use the name of YAVEH or YAHWEH and yet Orthodox Judaism believes that the Holy name should not be used so loosely? I've pondered this and tend to take their view on this subject. I'm such a rotten sinner and to say such a HOLY and righteous name seems so uncomfortable to me . I was told that only the Cohen gadol is to speak that name on rare occasions. Where does this stand scripturally for us as believers in Yehoshua as the Moshiach? Are there any good books or articles regarding this subject? Please advise. I find your website one of the best Messianic sites by far.

Shalom to you

A1. Pronouncing the Holy Name

I'm very glad that you find the information useful. The Name issue is a sensitive one. As far as I understand it is not wrong to write the name, that's why I use the letters YHVH or Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey to refer to God. I do not like to use the word 'God' or 'Lord' because I believe that a Name is a Name in any language. The rite to speak the Name of "YHVH" is one that is not clearly defined in Scripture. I am a follower of Torah and take the Scripture seriously and tend to take man's opinion less serious because of the fact that man can be wrong. This does not say that I'm right, I'm still learning and will newer stop, not even in the New Jerusalem. The thing I want to say is that my personal opinion is only temporal and will be directed to align to YHVH's Word as I grow. The same applies to any other believer. I believe to learn from others because the Truth is given as gifts, distributed among all of us so that we can get the full picture when we are walking in love and unity. That is why we will only know all things when we are in the New Jerusalem. But here is my opinion as I see it:
The Scripture says that the Name of YHVH needs to be proclaimed. What does it mean. One of His Names is Salvation or Y'shua, the other is Elohim which means, Messenger, Judge and King (also Y'shua). His Other Name is Adonai meaning Strength. Then there is the YHVH Name or pronounced Yahweh. Because there is no vowels in the original Hebrew Text, the pronunciation can differ and have different, but supportive meanings. To try and pronounce it, you may be right or wrong, we will only know one day. If it is wrong to pronounce it, I can only say what the Scripture say, and as far as I have learned, there is no commandment that forbids us to speak the name of YHVH, but there is one that commands us to proclaim His Name.
In Hebrew thought, a Name is a description of someone's character, the same goes for the Name of YHVH. The Scriptures are written only with Consonants and are said that it is "male". The reader has to put in the vowels which are female. Together they bring the word to life and it produces and is fruitful, just like in marriage. Y'shua is the Word and we are His Bride. With this is the back of your mind, thinking on how to proclaim the name of YHVH, not knowing how to pronounce it, we see that your life is filling in the vowels in between the Consonants Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey and together you proclaim His unspeakable Name by having an intimate relationship with Him, living out His Character with the help of His Spirit. You pronounce the Name of YHVH with your life, not with your mouth, proclaiming Him and His Character for all the people to see, shining His Light in this dark world. Light does not make a sound, think about it.

Should we confess His Name:

1Kings 8:33 (KJV) When thy people Israel shall be smitten before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication to thee in this house: {in: or, toward}

1Kings 8:34 (KJV) Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gavest to their fathers.

1Kings 8:35 (KJV) When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:

1Kings 8:36 (KJV) Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou mayest teach them the good way in which they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

2Chronicles 6:24 (KJV) And if thy people Israel shall be smote by the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house; {be put...: or, be smitten} {in: or, toward}

2Chronicles 6:25 (KJV) Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

2Chronicles 6:26 (KJV) When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; [yet] if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them....

Proclaim YHVH's Name:

Exodus 9:16 (KJV) And in very deed for this [cause] have I raised thee up, to show [in] thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. {raised...: Heb. made thee stand} Deuteronomy 32:3 (KJV) Because I will proclaim the name of Yahweh: ascribe ye greatness to our Elohim. 1Kings 8:43 (KJV) Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as [do] thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have built, is called by thy name. {this...: Heb. thy name is called upon this house} Psalms 22:22 (KJV) I will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. Psalms 102:21 (KJV) To declare the name of Yahweh in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

Bless people in His Name:

2Samuel 6:18 (KJV) And as soon as David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts. Psalms 129:8 (KJV) Neither do they who go by say, The blessing of Yahweh [be] upon you: we bless you in the name of Yahweh.
