Q8. Can we eat any meat? What is Kosher?
A8. First of all, death is abolished and not the Law. Fulfill means to make it full of meaning, not take away. Matt 5:17 Y’shua (Jesus) says not to even think this. Fulfill can mean complete but then it contradicts the phrase in the same verse; “...I have not come to abolish (destroy) the Law”. This means that it should rather mean; to make perfect and fill it with meaning and to take it one level up, as per definition of the Greek word “pleyroo”.
With this said, we know that Y’shua came to clear up misconceptions in the Torah, the oral interpretations and misconceptions that creped in through the Scribes and Pharisees. He was teaching the people Torah (Law) so that they will know it as He meant it. We see in Lev 11 all the detail pertaining to Kosher and what God said we can and cannot eat.
If you take God seriously, you will find out what He wants and do it as part of you obeying Him as His servant. Y’shua is our Master and we are His servants, actually Bondservants the same title Paul used to call himself. The Church follow Paul’s writings but are not Bondservants like he was. To be His servant means that we must listen to what our Master says and follow His instructions. He said in John 14:15, “if you love Me, keep My Commandments”.
Part of His Commandments are written in Lev 11 and deals with eating, other deal with living sexually moral. In Acts 15:20 the Apostles have decided on what the first things would be that the new believers should keep, guess what it was, it was about eating kosher and to live sexually moral. We as His followers must regard His Commandments and to eat Kosher is part of it, living the new life in obedience and love towards Him.
It’s not for the Jews only, but fr the Church as well.
