HOME BACKQ. When we accept Yeshua in our lives, wouldn’t we automatically obey the Law?A. In a perfect world, yes. The problem is with our flesh. Paul puts it clearly in his letter to the Romans:
Rom 7:15-17
(15) For that which I do, I know not. For what I desire, that I do not do; but what I hate, that I do. (16) If then I do that which I do not desire, I consent to the law that it is good. (17) But now it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. There are two laws described in his letter to the Romans; the first law is the Law of YHVH or the Torah, which he refers to as the Law in my mind. The second law he explains that are in conflict with the Law or Torah of YHVH, and that is the law of sin in the flesh.
Rom 7:21-23
(21) I find then a law (of sin): when I will to do the right, evil is present with me. (22) For I delight in the Law of God (Torah) according to the inward man; (23) but I see another law (of sin) in my members, warring against the law of my mind (Torah), and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin being in my members (flesh). This is the current situation with all of man; we are all bound in our fleshly bodies and bound (as we allow it) to the law of sin that is present in our bodies. The Law of YHVH is present in our inner man or heart and this it through the His Spirit. He prophesied that He will give His Spirit to man and the Spirit will write His Law (Torah) on our hearts so that we would do it.
Eze_11:19-21
“And I shall give them one heart, and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, (20) so that they walk in My laws, and guard My right-rulings, and shall do them. And they shall be My people and I shall be their Elohim. (21) “But to those whose hearts walk after the heart of their disgusting matters and their abominations, I shall recompense their deeds on their own heads,” declares the Master YHVH. This is what Yeshua’s first coming was all about; He came to earth so that we can be restored on the spiritual side and when He comes the second time, He will restore our physical side by giving us a glorified body. We are not fully restored yet and the inner war will continue in every believer until we see Him in the clouds at His Second coming. Then we will be able to stand before Him being fully restored back to the same state man experienced in the Garden of Eden. We will stand without any darkness (sin) in His presence (Light).
To answer the question then; do we automatically obey the Torah when we accept Yeshua? No. We are in an inner battle between YHVH’s Law in our hearts (inner man) telling us the standard and we WANT TO do it, but then the reality of the flesh, where we fall sometimes and have to repent. This will be an ongoing battle until we are fully restored back unto Him. It is an active part of your life, warring against the lusts of the flesh that is in contrast to YHVH’s Torah in your heart, which He wants you to follow. It is not passive and automatic, you have to work with Him and pull in the same direction to have spiritual growth in your life realised.
